Legal Identity of CPAR Uganda Ltd

Question 1: CPAR Uganda is a limited company - does this mean that it is no longer a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and that it is a profit making or potentially profit making organisation?

CPAR Uganda is compliant with the laws of Uganda which stipulate that not-for-profit organisations in Uganda must obtain only one legal identity, either by registering with the Uganda NGO Board as and NGO; or with the Uganda Registration Bureau as either a company limited by guarantee or as trust. CPAR Uganda is registered with the Uganda Registration Bureau as a company limited by guarantee and without share capital. CPAR Uganda is a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation. CPAR Uganda is an organisation established for the benefit of the less advantaged persons - its aims and objectives are for the benefit of Ugandans - most especially poor women, children and men living in rural Uganda.

CPAR Uganda Ltd was formed in 2008 through transformation of the Uganda Country Office of the Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR). It is a fully independent Ugandan owned not-for-profit development organisation that is registered as a company limited by guarantee and is without share capital.
