Awino Gladys, Welcome

“Currently, I am leading a team of youth advocates in Lira District that is advocating for youth friendly services in the district in the quest to address the issues affecting young people, because we believe that we can eradicate poverty once these issues are addressed.”

Awino Gladys.

This is among the examples that Awino shared of why she is the most deserving young adult to be awarded a scholarship and to be selected to participate in our CPAR Uganda programme: “Mentoring Young Adults into Innovators against Poverty.”

Awino is of Lango ancestry from Lira District. She is an undergraduate student at Kyambogo University, doing studies for the award of a degree in Demography and Reproductive Health. We are delighted to have her as part of the first cohort of our mentoring programme and we look forward to working with her and to contributing to enabling her to achieve her long term goals.

In turn, it is our expectation that through her, we at CPAR Uganda will contribute to achieving of our vision and that people in her home area, Bung-Amon Village, Amach Town Council, Erute South County, Lira District in Northern Uganda, who come in contact with her will proactively work towards them living healthy and dignified lives during which their rights are respected.

  3. Honestly, before I joined the mentorship program at CPAR Uganda, I really had this though of I am an important person in the community if I am working with big organizations and earning lots of money to help the people. But through the mentorship program and also the challenging categories project, I came to realize that I can do anything even if not working with a big organization to change the people around me. For instance through my social media platform, i have counselled and advised many people on the different pages I share with them. I am also a choir member in my church and through singing, many people have joined and we have managed to share out our thoughts.
Generally, my life has greatly changed ever since I joined the mentorship program because in my mind I knew I would have to work with a big organization to change the community just like I had said when joining that I was advocating for SRHRs for the youth through an organization. But now I can do it even through my social media platform
