Help poor women in Uganda access low cost finance

Your generous donations in the past enabled us, at CPAR Uganda, to mentor disadvantaged youth into innovators against poverty. The beneficiaries of our mentoring programme that you supported are in their communities innovating and inspiring actions for the greater good.

For example, the idea for CPAR Uganda to establish a Uganda women’s economic empowerment loan fund and to provide disadvantaged women with financial literacy training was inspired by Oluka, a beneficiary of our mentoring programme.

This week, 18th to 22nd September 2023, we’re inviting you to team up with us again in celebrating the power of the crowd for GlobalGiving’s Little by Little campaign and help us to raise seed capital for our Uganda women’s economic empowerment loan fund.

From today, Monday, 18th until Friday, 22nd, GlobalGiving will match online donations up to $50 (Shs. 186,000) at 50% making your donation go even further as follows:

Together and with compassion, there’s no telling what we can do supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds as they inspire positive change in their respective communities.

But don’t take our word for it. Listen to the voices of disadvantaged young women in Uganda, such as Baraka, who against all odds are carrying the weight of provider for their respective households.

“If I could get a cheap loan of a million shillings ($ 270), I would expand my business and earn more profit.

I would be able to buy a bag of potatoes at a lower unit cost and be able to make more sales profit; expand varieties of fruits and vegetables that I can buy to sell; and improve the structure of my fruits and vegetables stand,” wishes Baraka.

Her name, Baraka, means “prosperity, mystical blessing.” She is a 25-years old fruits and vegetables vendor, with a roadside stall in a peri-urban area of the municipality in Uganda. She works long backbreaking hours but earns meagre resources not sufficient to ensure the wellbeing of her family.

Her household, consists of her, her three children (two girls and one boy) and her husband, a 28-years old mason, with an irregular source of income. With her meagre resources, they are unable to afford the right quality and quantity of food; they are undernourished.

Help us to enhance Baraka’s economic empowerment and that of other disadvantaged women in Uganda who are trying their very best to improve their lot.

With your generosity, we will be able to make Baraka’s wishes come true and improve the quality of life for her household and also that of hundreds of disadvantaged women by giving them access to low-cost loans and financial literacy.

Funds raised for seed capital for the establishment of a credit facility through which Uganda women hawkers, vendors, traders, artisanal entrepreneurs and smallholder farmers will access low interest loans to invest in their income generating enterprises.

Thank you for making a donation; helping us reach our target and enabling hundreds of active disadvantaged women in Uganda feed their families that are currently undernourished.

Did you know that one in three women worldwide are subjected to physical or sexual violence in their lifetime?

Among the reasons why so is that thousands of women are forced into early marriage. The education of a woman forced into an early marriage is prematurely stopped. Consequently, also her development and opportunities to earn an income and live independently are severely negatively impacted.

An effective way to break this vicious cycle of woman poverty is through the economic empowerment of women –  including giving poor women access to low cost finance for income generation and financial literacy.

Your generous donation will help us to do so and we thank you.
