Best farming practice include ensuring quality through post harvest handling.

“Congratulations on your organization’s incredible work! GlobalGiving is pleased to send you $1,170.56 (approximately 4.5 million shillings) via FXecute representing donations to CPAR Uganda Ltd’s projects made through 2/16/2024:

  • Organization Level – $1,014.15 (approximately 3.9 million shillings)
  • Project 55825 – Uganda women’s economic empowerment loan fund – $99.71 (approximately 380,000 shillings)
  • Project 55826 – Welding apprenticeships to empower youth in Uganda – $38.70 (approximately 155,000 shillings.
  • Project 34700 – Mentoring Young Adults in Uganda into Innovators – $18.00 (approximately 70,000 shillings).”

What wonderful news we received via email from GlobalGiving on Friday, 16th February 2024, the day of the 47th commemoration of Archbishop Janani Luwum. Moreover, in keeping with Archbishop Luwum’s teachings and his advocacy for “holistic development of people and communities,” the theme for this year’s commemoration of Janani Luwum Day was:

“Hope Beyond Affliction,” as derived from the Book of Lamentations 3:21-26.”

In a practical way and at the grassroots, CPAR Uganda will utilize this gift of 4.5 million shillings to keep hope alive among disadvantaged communities of greater northern Uganda. A reminder that disadvantaged communities have it in them to innovate and to improve standards of living in their communities.

As soon as the funds arrive CPAR Uganda’s bank account, it is hoped next week, during the week beginning Monday, 19th February 2024, the funds will be allocated and utilised as follows:

Ug. Shs. 1,000,000 will be granted to Catherine Itipet, MD’s Personal Assistant, to invest in income generation in collaboration with disadvantaged communities of her home district, Serere in Teso Sub-Region. This is within the ethos of both our “Uganda women’s economic empowerment loan fund” project.

Ug. Shs. 380,000 will be granted to Robert Oluka, Innovator, to lend to disadvantaged women of Ochelekur in his home district of Kalaki in Kumam Sub-Region. This is within the ethos of both our “Uganda women’s economic empowerment loan fund” project.

Ug. Shs. 225,000 will be granted to Jimmy Ezra Okello, Innovator, to invest in income generation to raise funds for our “Welding apprenticeships to empower youth in Uganda” project, in Lira District in Lango Sub-Region.

Ug. Shs. 2,895,000 will be utilised to cover some of our CPAR Uganda administrative expenses, including mostly our online presence (website and social media) and online fundraising.

Within the ethos of our “Mentoring young adults in Uganda into innovators” project, the three grants to Itipet, Oluka and Okello are innovation grants through which CPAR Uganda expects to achieve two major objectives:

Objective 1: Enhanced Entitlements

Enhance the entitlements of the direct beneficiaries so they have more livelihood options that improve food and nutrition security in their respective households and ultimately in the households of others in their wider disadvantaged communities. Entitlements defined thus:

“In every society each person can be thought of as having an “entitlement” to all possible combinations of the goods and services to which he has access. An entitlement is a collection of alternative bundles of goods and services from which the person in question is free to choose.”

Objective 2: Enhanced Human Development

Enhance the knowledge and skills – financial literacy and running viable businesses – of direct beneficiaries through mentoring. The three grantees will be mentored by our Managing Director for a one-year period. And in turn they will share their learning with others in their respective communities under the guidance and supervision of their mentor.

CPAR Uganda is forever grateful to all who make financial donations through GlobalGiving in support of our work. Without our supporter’s generosity we would not be able to train and mentor young people to possess an attitude of self-reliance; the requisite will and skill to innovate and to initiate interventions that cause positive change in their respective communities.

We need your help to continue positively impacting the lives of disadvantaged youths, the well being of their households and wider communities. Please consider making a donation. Click here to make a donation.
