The injustice of colonialism and the sustaining legacy of colonialism burdens us. Whereas, from it we got a new language, the language of those who did colonize Uganda, the English, and whose language, the English language, has become the official language of Uganda, we are burden that our own languages of our first nations of Uganda are getting extinct.
And so, we are happy to read and learn of initiatives intended to revive and ensure the languages of our first nations do not become extinct. Initiatives such as by Researchers at the Makerere University Kampala College of Humanities and Social Sciences to prevent Tipeth from getting extinct.
It also gives us joy, thanks to our partner, GlobalGiving, to read and learn about funding programmes, such as Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (ELDP).
“ELDP provides grants for the documentation of endangered languages. The 2025 grant round is now open. You can apply here.”
We welcome all initiatives that are focused on preservation of languages of the first nations of Uganda. Every little bit counts, for a loss of a language is loss of a civilization.
Knowing the loss of languages of the first nations of Uganda is eminent burdens us. Do we hold a grudge? With whom in this case?
