Professionalism at its best

Stimulate development, dissemination and widespread application of technologies suitable for Uganda is the mission of CPAR Uganda.

Sunday, 28th December 2025, the end of year meeting of the CPAR Uganda Board of Directors is held. The venue, gifted by our Finance Chair, Mr. Alex Bwangamoi Okello; hosting at his home in Rom Village, Laroo-Pece Division, Gulu City in northern Uganda.

Mr. Okello is among the founding members of CPAR Uganda – members of the Uganda Country Advisory Committee of Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (1992-2008). Three of them – Prof. Fred Opio Ekong, Ms. Judy Adoko and Justice Stella Arach, have since rested. May their souls continue to rest in power.

Not only did Mr. Okello gift us a meeting space, he provided us with everything else that we needed for the conduct of the meeting – food, utilities, electric power, internet access, etc. The only meeting cost to CPAR Uganda, fuel for the Board Secretary, the Managing Director, I, to drive about 200 kilometers to and from the meeting.

The CPAR Uganda Board Chair, Prof. Dr. Christopher Garimoi Orach, covered all his travel costs; and so did the two CPAR Uganda Associates, who were invited for partial attendance at the Board Meeting, also cover their own travel costs. No per diem, no sitting allowances, or payments of any kind were given or received by attendees.

Excluding travel time, the meeting had been scheduled to take only two hours, but it took about six hours, including field work at the CPAR Uganda Medical Centre that is under construction at Plot 30, Gulu Avenue, Gulu City. The Board provided timely technical guidance and made resolutions about space allocation.

Stimulate development, dissemination, and widespread application of technologies suitable for Uganda is the mission of CPAR Uganda.

Dr. Robert Kidega, a medical doctor, is investing millions of shillings of his own money, in accordance with his Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CPAR Uganda, for the establishment of the CPAR Uganda Medical Centre, as a social enterprise and through financing via public, private, partnerships.

Similarly, Ms. Margaret Laloyo, an adult educator, community development innovator, Shea expert and environment conservationist, is investing millions of shillings of her own money, in accordance with her MoU with CPAR Uganda, for the establishment of the CPAR Uganda Social Innovation Center on Y. K. Museveni Road in Pader Town.

Each and everyone of them an expert in their field is a significant positive force. Giving of their competence, integrity, respect, ethical conduct, accountability, emotional intelligence and reliability for the greater good of communities less advantaged. Enabling CPAR Uganda’s vision of building healthy communities in Uganda.

How else can I describe professionalism at its best? Professional relationships done well, cannot but have significant positive impact. I am in awe of each and everyone of the members of the CPAR Uganda Board of Directors and our Associates. I am inspired by them and I aspire to do as they do. Giving back and paying it forward!

An elating way it was for me to end the year!

My work as the team leader of implementation of CPAR Uganda activity was made significantly easier, for a strong foundation was laid for the 2026 execution of the CPAR Uganda Mission:
