Donate to empower knowledge against poverty

Stimulate development, dissemination and widespread application of technologies appropriate to Uganda is the mission of CPAR Uganda.

From September 8–12, donations up to $1,000 (about 3.5 million shillings) to CPAR Uganda will be boosted by GlobalGiving’s Passport to Purpose Campaign*.

Your gift of $100 (about 350,000 shillings) enables a tuberculosis (TB) research change agent to conduct community based empirical research and to produce research findings reports that are vital to enhancing decision-making in the fight to stop TB.

Ultimately, life-saving TB research benefits thousands of indigent TB patients and their households by inspiring interventions that enable better access to appropriate TB services, resulting from improved TB knowledge among service providers.

When we all work together, there is no limit to what we can do—but don’t take our word for it. This is what public servants are saying about our work and approach:

“I got interested in reading your stories about GeneXpert utilization and TB in Northern Uganda. They are well written, thank you!” This is the reason which Abdunoor Nyombi gave for accessing and downloading, via Academia, our publication: “Tuberculosis the Silent Epidemic in Uganda’s Greater Northern Region.” A publication which contains grassroots empirical qualitative research findings of our investigation into TB. Nyombi is a Medical Laboratory Scientist at the National TB Reference Laboratory, Uganda; and he is an infectious diseases, epidemiology and public health practitioner; a civil servant. As part of Nyombi’s feedback, he requested us thus: “With the knowledge, skills and exposure you have, I believe you can support to give more publicity to TB disease. I wish you can reach out to the BCC (Behavioral Change Communication) Specialist of National TB & Leprosy Control Program – Ministry of Health and see how you can work together for the good of the community.”

Not knowing is a kind of poverty.

Lack of essential knowledge on TB has trapped thousands of indigent households in Uganda in cycles of poverty.

Not knowing limits their access to TB diagnostic and treatment services. And their ability to complete treatment due to their inability to afford food and other necessities crucial for withstanding the tough treatment regimen for managing TB.

Consequently, indigent TB patients suffer long illness and unnecessary early death from a treatable airborne disease.

With your generosity, we can train 25 community-based TB research change agents.

Trained research change agents who will enable continuous grassroots TB research that is needed to inform decision-making by TB service providers for improved services that are more accessible to those who need them the most, indigent TB patients.

Thank you for helping us to access a portion of the US$ 215,000 boaster incentive funds of the GlobalGiving Passport to Purpose Campaign.

Your generous donation boasted by Globalgiving will contribute to stimulating the development, dissemination and widespread application of research findings which inspire interventions to reverse the trend of 90,000 Ugandans annually infected with TB.

Together we can empower with TB knowledge and inspire implementation of appropriate TB interventions!

Warmly,

Team CPAR Uganda
