Being able to share knowledge with others makes me proud …

Daily writing prompt
What are you most proud of in your life?

They say knowledge is power and she who has it and uses it well is the one powerful. The reason, I think, there is a tendency for people to hoard knowledge to themselves and deny others access to it.

Overall, for me, I am endowed with the propensity to want to freely and easily share knowledge with others. So, for example this morning, I came upon two links, clicked on them, read, and am inspired to share my learning.

The first was an announcement of the “World Food Day Poster Contest,” for which the deadline is 8th November 2024. The competition is for children and youth aged 5-19 years to design “a poster that symbolizes your favorite dish or recipe, representing the importance of diverse, nutritious, safe and affordable food,” Read more here.

The second link led me to an informative piece on “12 Super Foods to Boost Eye Health and Improve Eyesight.” Wow! Easy to understand advice on how “Getting enough vitamins and minerals through food like fish, eggs, carrots, citrus fruits, and more may also help to keep your eyesight from declining.”

It got me re-thinking the food I love to eat, is easily available and accessible; and which I did not know had such significant benefits for eye health. And I thought, if I was eligible to participate in the poster contest, I would design a poster about foods that contribute to eye health, using foods that are easily available and accessible.

Food rich in vitamins and minerals that contributes to good eye health.

Foods good for your eye health, that we can produce or afford to buy such as:

  • Fish from a fish farm, like when we went fishing at the fish farm of Roots Retreat & Camping Retreat. And we have plenty of fish from our fresh water lakes that is available on the market.
  • Oranges from toto (mama) Ajilo’s farm
  • Carrots from the farmers’s markets
  • Eggs from the roadside kiosk vendor

This is the kind of knowledge I would like to reach disadvantaged communities in rural areas, without access to eye healthcare services. The reason why we, at CPAR Uganda, are raising funds for our “Restore eye sight & worth of rural poor in Uganda.”

Please consider making a donation in support of millions of Ugandans going blind due to avoidable and treatable causes. Click here to learn more and to make a donation.

I am proud of the objectives for which our nonprofit, CPAR Uganda, was established:

“Building health communities in Uganda,” by engaging in educational and scientific activities to stimulate the development, dissemination and widespread application of technologies suitable and adaptable to the social, cultural and economic conditions of developing countries.”
