For many nonprofit organisations in Uganda, such as ours, November is genuinely the last month of work. Many of our organisations and employees, close down during the entire month of December and return in January after the new year has begun.
It is practice for many employees not to take leave until December so that in conjunction with Christmas they are able to spend time with family, often in their ancestral homes, which are not necessarily in the same geography as where they work.
And so, November is both a reflection and thanks giving month. Reflection on what we achieved during the year and thanks giving that we made it and were able to make a contribution. Whereas, Thanks Giving, is not really a Ugandan holiday, we like its positive underpinnings.
The principle of sharing ones knowledge and seed with another in need and when they use it and have a great harvest they hold thanks giving celebrations which they share with others.
In ten days, on 28th November, it will be Thanks Giving in the United States. While it is not a holiday in Uganda, we unofficially embrace its spirit. And it is in that spirit that we please ask you to help us and consider gifting a gift that keeps on giving to disadvantaged but hardworking women in Uganda who against all odds are striving to put food on the table.
