Inspiration from Princess Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, which today I dedicate especially to the young women who were the target of the ‘fibroid joke.’
“That original comment was outrageous. I hope the offending quack has been roundly shamed. It’s GREAT that girls are choosing to finish their education and be financially independent before having kids. Never ever fall into the trap of being dependent on a man for your own and your child’s welfare!” Successful Norwegian Woman
Ladies, stay your course and follow your dreams. Be successful. Be ambitious. And if you want to, vocally and publicly celebrate your financial prowess. Let no one shame you into abandoning your chosen career path.
Also, know that 40-80% of women have a fibroid(s), but which mostly remains benign. It is only among few, about 20%, where a fibroid(s) may become problematic needing medical intervention. I am among those few and a survivor!
I received excellent medical management from a good doctor, Dr. David Ndawula, a General Practitioner, taking the lead, right here in Uganda.
Coordinating with the surgeons who did the surgery in Edinburgh. And thereafter handling the post-surgery care when I returned back to Uganda.
This is what we should advocate for. Provision, availability and accessibility of excellent healthcare services that make us well, so we can lead healthy and dignified lives, during which our rights are respected.
