Celebrating the life of late Judy Adoko

Three days before International Women’s Day, on 5th March 2023, our Judy Adoko, founder member and board member of CPAR Uganda Ltd, rested.

#IWD2023 is a day to recognise and celebrate women and girls across the world. This year’s theme is: DigitALL – innovation & technology for gender equality. At CPAR Uganda Ltd, we believe in the power of technology to enhance women’s rights, and promote gender equality.

And so, in memory of our Judy Adoko, starting with her final send off, currently ongoing, we will use innovative ways and information communication technology to archive and share Judy’s activism and in a manner that her legacy becomes the foundation for future activism for the greater good.

Follow and participate in the final send off of Judy via her special A-Plus Funeral Management YouTube. Here is the link

We are in mourning:

“My sincere sympathies on the loss of Judy. It sounds like she was a wonderful woman and a wonderful representative of CPAR Uganda. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who knew and loved her.”

Ms. Kathrina Loeffler, Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief (CPAR) Executive Director

Judy was indeed a wonderful woman and a wonderful representative of CPAR Uganda – first as a country programme of CPAR (1992 to 2008) and as an independent development organisation (2008 to date). A glimpse of her goodness is deducible from the reactions to her death by her CPAR family:

“Oh my God! Oh my God! What sad news. May her soul rest in peace. Uganda has lost a wonderful, kind and giving lady. She always has been there when CPAR needed her and her contribution to the cause was exemplary. What a loss. I don’t have enough words.”

Gizaw Shibru, CPAR Uganda Country Representative (1992-2008)

“So sad to hear about the death of Judy. She was a straightforward, diligent member of the Board. Simple to interact with. May she rest in everlasting peace.”

Prof. Christopher Garimoi Orach, CPAR Uganda Ltd Board Chair

Today, Friday, 10th March 2023, there was a requiem service for her soul held at St Paul Church of Uganda in Lira City, after which the cortege is proceeding to her ancestral home in Akokoro Village in Apac District. Her remains will be laid their final resting place tomorrow, Saturday, 11th March 2023 in Akokoro.

For you who were her friends on Facebook, you already know her unique profile picture – a pair of white shoes. Beautiful and petite as her profile picture shoes my look, Judy’s proverbial shoes are too big to fill. We, at CPAR Uganda, however, promise to do our very best to follow in her footsteps.

May Judy’s soul rest in eternal peace we pray.

One response to “Celebrating the life of late Judy Adoko”

  1. Judy was so motherly. Just last month, towards the end, I was in her office at the Lira Cultural Center and I introduced myself to her as CPAR Uganda staff. She was very happy. I am happy that God wanted me to wave to her before she died. And that was my last time to meet her. What a motherly and caring person she was. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
