These are the 10 young innovators who are under the mentorship of our Managing Director, Ms. Norah Owaraga, who will play a direct key role in implementing our research and advocacy project: “Challenging Categories: Educated Unemployed Youth as Institutional Innovators in Rural Uganda”– doing field work in Teso and Lango.
The young innovators are:
Gladys Awino will function as our Project Publicity Assistant, supporting the team in media content archiving and sharing; as well as providing administrative support. Read more about her here
Sarah Amongin will function as a Research Assistant to the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Ben Jones, in conducting the first study of the project, doing fieldwork in Teso.
Robert Oluka will function as a Research Assistant to the PI in conducting the first study of the project, doing fieldwork in Teso. Read more about him here
Dorah Adoch Komakech will function as a Research Assistant to the Co-Investigator (COI), Dr. Laury Ocen, in conducting the second study of the project, doing fieldwork in Lango. Read more about her here
Stella Rose Aguti will function as a Research Assistant to the PI in conducting the first study of the project, doing fieldwork in Teso.
Gumkit Ann Parlaker will function as a Research Assistant to the COI in conducting the second study of the project, doing fieldwork in Lango. Read more about her here

The nine innovators who are functioning as research assistants to the PI and the COI will take the lead in conducting a third study of the project in which Dr. Jones and Dr. Ocen will function both as their research assistants, trainers and mentors. The participating innovators shall also have the opportunity to co-author academic papers with the PI and the COI and to participate in an array of research findings dissemination activities, including policy advocacy.
Our exciting and innovative Challenging Categories project, which we are implementing in partnership with Lira University and the University of East Anglia, U.K., received a grant award from the British Academy, under the British Government’s Global Challenges Research Fund.
Formally launched on Saturday, 17th Ápril 2021, at our Lira Learning Centre, our Challenging Categories project is underway and will be on-going for 21 months.
